PROFESSIONAL CLASSIFICATIONS

Clinical Social Worker (SW), (LCSW)
Clinical Social Workers have a Masters' Degree (MSW_ from an accredited graduate school with a specialization in health care services. They plan, organize and administer direct services and intervene in individual, group, community, and organizational systems. Clinical Social Workers often work in hospitals, social service agencies, or private parties.

Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP)
An Employee Assistance Professional is certified to design work-based programs. They assist in the identification and resolution of productivity problems associated with employees impaired by personal concerns including, but not limited to health, marital, family, financial, alcohol, drug, legal, emotional, stress, or other personal concerns which may adversely affect employee job performance.

Florida Registered Mental Health Interns
These professionals are individuals who intend to practice in Florida and are in the process of satisfying the postgraduate or post-masters' level experience requirements as specified in FL s. 491.005(1)c (3)c or (4)c for the following practices: clinical social worker, marriage and family therapist, mental health counselor. These professionals are providing services under the supervision of a qualified registered supervisor.

Marriage & Family Therapist (MT), (LMFT)
Marriage & Family Therapists have a Master's Degree (MA or MS) from an accredited graduate school with a specialization in counseling psychology. They treat individuals, families or groups including children, adolescents and adults for a wide range of emotional and behavioral disorders. Marriage and Family Therapists may work in hospitals, businesses, agencies or private practices.

Mental Health Counselor (MH), (LMHC)
Mental Health Counselors have a Master's Degree (MA or MS) from an accredited graduate school with a specialization in counseling psychology. They treat individuals, families or groups including children, adolescents and adults for a wide range of emotional and behavioral disorders. Mental Health Counselors may work in hospitals, businesses, agencies or private practices.

Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)
Psychiatrict Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNPs) have completed a Master's Degree in the specialty of psychiatry/mental health and are licensed and certified to assess, diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders and problems. They provide a full range of mental health services to individuals, families, groups and communities, function as psychotherapists, and under protocol with a physician, prescribe medication.

Psychiatrist (MD), (OS)
Psychiatrists are physicians who have a medical degree (MD) with a specialization in human behavior. They treat a wide range of emotional and behavioral disorders and may be working in hospitals, businesses, government agencies, private practice, etc. Psychiatrists can prescribe medication.

Psychologist (PY)
Psychologists have completed a doctoral program in Philosophy, Psychology or Education (Ph.D. - Doctor of Philosophy or Psychology, PsyD - Doctor of Psychology, EdD- Doctor of Education). They diagnose and treat emotional and behavioral disorders in children, adolescents and adults that range from mild to very severe. Psychologists most often work in hospitals, businesses or private practice.

School Psychologist (SS)
School Psychologists may have a Doctorate Degree (Ph.D., PsyD, EdD), a Specialist's Degree (EdS, CAS-SP) or a Master's Degree (MA, MS, MEd) from an accredited graduate school with specialization in learning, adjustment and social/emotional disorders in children and adolescents. Their services typically include psycho educational evaluation, counseling, consultation and program development. School psychologists often work in government agencies, public or private schools or private practice.

Note:
All mental health professionals have completed a supervised internship prior to sitting for the State of Florida Licensure Exam to determine competency in their particular field. In addition all must maintain active participation in ongoing continuing education to renew their license. Although certain license classifications traditionally provide service to certain narrow populations, many services overlap license titles. An exception is the prescription of medication, which is restricted to the Psychiatrist (MD) and Nurse Practitioner (ARNP).
