Cards Of Hope is a project started by Ariana Rushiti, a Sophomore at Aubrey Rogers High School in Naples, Florida with the help of her classmate Laila Thompson. Cards of Hope are created by students of Aubrey Rogers High School to spread positivity.
Her idea came about from her parents. They would collectively illustrate small encouraging notes each day to Ariana, starting from when she could barely read.
In Ariana’s words, “The idea for Cards of Hope was inspired by my parents. From the time I was little and could barely read, they would leave small, encouraging notes on top of my lunch each day. Those simple sticky notes always made me feel appreciated, supported, and loved. That experience showed me how powerful a few kind words can be, and it inspired me to create something that could bring that same feeling to others. This club truly came to life with the help of Laila Thompson. She plays a crucial role in Cards of Hope, and without her support, this club would not exist. She is always by my side when we pass out cards for students to fill out, promote the club, and encourage others to participate. A large majority of the students who take part in Cards of Hope have become involved through Laila’s dedication and outreach.
Although some of the cards may not contain perfect grammar or carefully written messages, we believe that the thought and sincerity behind each one are what truly matter. A simple message written from the heart can have a much greater impact than perfectly chosen words.”
Now entering their sophomore year, Ariana and Laila continue to work hard to promote appreciation, kindness, and support for important issues within our community. September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and this year, Cards of Hope worked especially hard to spread kindness and encouragement throughout their school and community. With hope that these cards would provide sense of comfort, hope, or reassurance to anyone who may need it.
